Meet The Team

From graduate trainees themselves to coordinators and managers of REED’s Early Talent programmes: Meet the people who started their own careers at REED and find out how they can help launch yours!

Who are the Early Talent team?

The remit of the team is to coordinate and manage all the Early Talent entry routes / programmes at REED which at the moment consists of Internships, a Placement Year and the Graduate Scheme; which has now been running for over 20 years.

We are also exploring how REED can work more closely with schools and colleges in regards to our school-leaver offering; we already work very closely with the Apprenticeships team here at REED as most of our new starters are enrolled as apprentices / degree apprentices in their first year.

Lauren Salter Graduate & Early Talent Manager

How did you get here?

Before I joined the Graduate Scheme I studied Psychology at Aston University (Undergraduate then Masters) and worked in hospitality management for a couple of years as well as helping coordinate student placements on the careers team at Aston.

I then joined REED as a Temporaries Consultant in our Bristol team for my first year of the Graduate Scheme, sourcing candidates for one of our key clients in the banking sector. Following that I interviewed for the Graduate Scheme Coordinator role for my second year and was successful. I have now progressed into the Graduate & Early Talent Manager role & I am in the third year of the scheme .

What do you hope to achieve over the coming year?

I want to increase the overall number of candidates joining REED on the Early Talent entry-routes, including growing our Placement Year scheme as this is only in its first year!

I also plan to work with colleagues on creating a more structured Internship scheme which provides inexperienced hires with core business skills so that they can look to join REED on a permanent basis when their Internship ends.

Erm… I’m gluten intolerant (ha ha!)… and I love cheese!

Sophie Parsons Graduate Training Scheme Coordinator

Sophie manages graduates through the application process, including conducting telephone interviews and arranging for them to go for face to face interviews around the business. She also leads aspects of the attraction strategies with universities such as attending job fairs and delivering skills workshops on topics such as interview techniques.

Once the recruitment part is done, then Sophie (alongside Lauren) coordinates all aspects of the three-year Graduate Scheme including inductions, rotations, and salary increases.

“The most exciting part of the job is always the inductions! That’s when all the new starters come to the Reed Business School in the Cotswolds and get to meet us, James Reed and loads of graduates that have already been on or through the schemes and are now in senior positions within REED.”

Life before REED

I studied English at the University of Nottingham. Prior to REED, I worked as a cleaner of holiday apartments one summer and I’d also worked as a waitress for about 18 months. Lots of my transferable skills also came from running a society at university, organising events and playing team sports.

My REED Journey

I joined REED in October 2015 in our Northampton Shared Service Centre (Reed Talent Solutions) working on a project for a major client initially, before moving to a role recruiting Co-Members for our Reed in Partnership business. I applied to the Graduate Scheme as an internal applicant and my contract (and salary) were switched as of June 2017.

I spent my first year on the scheme in the Reed in Partnership recruitment role, during which time I led on a project to open a new contact centre and achieved a promotion to Senior Consultant.

What do you hope to achieve over the coming year?

I want to make sure our Grads currently in the business feel supported throughout the scheme and have plenty of opportunities for progression and continuous development, and I want to make sure we’re supporting Early Talent as a whole to feel positive about the outlook for their careers, feel confident in applying for roles, and always have a positive experience when going through the REED recruitment process regardless of outcome.

When I was in year 6 at school I applied to go on… Mastermind! (the children’s version that is!)

Leah Greaves Early Talent Coordinator

Leah joins the Early Talent team at the end of August and will initially be focussing on the coordination of our Placement Year programme recruitment as applications are opened September to December for our summer 2019 intake. Leah will also be working with the team on developing our Internship programme and exploring School-Leaver programme opportunities too.

From South West to the East Midlands

Before REED I studied Law at the University of Exeter and completed an internship as a Legal Assistant. I also worked in hospitality for some time.

I joined the Graduate Scheme last year as an Employment Advisor for Reed in Partnership based in Cornwall. I am now in the process of moving to Northampton where the REED head office is based.

What do you hope to achieve over the coming year?

A successful year for the Placement Scheme and to increase the variety of opportunities available for younger candidates across the REED group, predominantly through Internships and Apprenticeships.

I love dogs! My dream is to one day own a house that I can fit hundreds of dogs in!
